Movie News, Thor: Ragnarok to Begin Filming On July 4th

Thor: Ragnarok, the upcoming third instalment in the adventures of Thor Odinson, will feature the titular Asgardian and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, both of whom were absent in Civil War due to Hulk going missing and Thor likely wanting no part in our petty human squabbles. Fans will be particularly looking forward to seeing what became of Bruce Banner after, in what was presumably a very tough decision, he spurned the affections of Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and jetted off to parts unknown due to his inability to control the big green monster lurking within him.

Fresh from the critical and commercial success of Captain America: Civil War, Marvel Studios has announced that Thor: Ragnarok will begin filming on July 4th 2016 and is expected to finish around late October. Filming will primarily take place at Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast in Australia, allowing the film’s star, Chris Hemsworth, to remain close to his wife and three young children whilst production takes place.

Directed by Taika Waititi, the third Thor entry will feature a star studded cast that includes Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Karl Urban as Skurge and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie. It’s now been confirmed that Tom Hiddleston’s fan favourite troublemaker Loki will make an appearance too, which is not surprising given the cliffhanger at the end of Thor: The Dark World. Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and Heimdall (Idris Elba) are also confirmed for Ragnarok, whereas Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander) is expected to be back. Thor’s love interest Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, will not be making an appearance, however.

The concept of Thor: Ragnarok has been described as a “buddy picture” with plenty of “back and forth” by Mark Ruffalo, so you can expect copious amounts of banter between the two Avengers – though you’d imagine Thor would hold back a little, given Banner’s anger management issues. Nevertheless, the presence of Hulk and the seemingly intergalactic setting has sparked speculation that Marvel is heading towards a Planet Hulk-style storyline; something comic readers will know has the potential to be very special indeed.
